Dave - thank you for your response.

You probably are correct, but I see two rows of denticles from 10:00
position to 6:00. Outer row becomes main row. V shaped denticles at
bottom of shield are not in alignment with either outer or inner rows
    of denticles.

If not third strike what would cause the V shaped denticulation at
bottom of shield? Look at denticle strikes on PLUR with a second
layer of denticle strikes on the outer rim.

Curiousity, not trying to beat a dead horse. Besides, if we can
mangle some of the modern coins that are triple struck, I an quite
certain that with a little bit of grog and a foul mood that our
forefathers could also mess up one or two. Specifically since
sometimes they missed half of the planchet.

Besides, I am still the neophyte and slightly loony new member of
    Colonials.

I hope that the New Year brings more confusion, confrontation and the
resultant knowledge that clears and clarifies how some of these coins
were made, who made, and why they were made.

Morris, It would be very hard to strike a coin 2x on one side and 3x
