The 7 page missive that Jarvis sent to Congress was dated 25 Aug. 1788 and
was an attempt to squirm around his failure to maintain his contract
agreement with Congress (one more thing to transcribe!)
I did find an interesting letter from Don Taxay to EPN (23 Sept 1953) in
which he writes: 'I think that the street on which Jarvis lived in 1789 was
a 'shop' street. Jarvis, I told you, lived at 84 Bdwy. His closest
neighbor was, apparently, a sea-captain named Charles Ogilvie who lived at
86 Bdwy. A gold and silversmith named Forbes was located at 88 Bdwy, and
there was a fruit shop at 78 Bdwy. His friend (I don't know if they were
friends in 1789! - my [Rob's] addition), William Duer also lived on Bdwy. in
1789, but no address is given. On the following year, Duer moved to
Cortland St. Royal Flint, merchant, lived at King do. in 1789.'
