    Hi All!
I just received Vol 1 Number 1 of the American Numismatic Society Magaz=
ine. It's a 42 glossy page publication with good quality pictures. Th=
ere is advertising to defray costs and I hope to see information with respe=
ct to the "US Colonial Numismatics" in future issues. It will be issued 3 =
    times a year.=20=20
It is my personal opinion that as collectors we should support the orga=
nizations that help our hobby. Of course I feel an obligation to place mem=
bership in C4 as top priority. The ANS has a library and research museum t=
hat is unequalled in this country (world?). If you want to dig into a rese=
arch project, the ANS is the first place to go! The American Numismatic As=
sociation is the national organization for collectors and clubs. You may a=
sk what membership does for you, but the first time you borrow research boo=
ks through the mail, it will have more than paid for the dues. Although CN=
L is published under the auspices of the ANS, membership in ANS is not requ=
ired to subscribe (although a subscription is less expensive for ANS member=
s). CNL needs no introduction to most of us, but if you make one major num=
ismatic purchase for your colonial library, a complete set of all back issu=
es of CNL is what I'd recommend! I'm also involved in state and local club=
s but in general they do little to further my enjoyment of colonial numisma=
    tics.
So there you have it IMHO. Membership in ANA, ANS, CNL and C4. These =
memberships are not terribly expensive. If you would not join all of these=
on your own, then the next birthday (holiday) your wife (husband) asks wha=
t you would like as a gift - suggest a membership from above. It sure beat=
s getting socks and a tie!!!

    Ray
