According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, production of 1,1,1 trichloroehtane was halted in the US in 1996 because of its harmful effects on the ozone layer. Mild exposure to its fumes may cause lightheadedness and it may cause liver damage if ingested. It does not appear to be a carcinogenic.
