In terms of the chronometer no real functioning chronometer was
accepted as a working model till Harrison's H4 prototype based on
information given to me from several sources. However, it is a big
question on when we feel the Motts were able to repair an English
chronometer in New York City. Marsters again introduced the first
American built one in 1831. This will take further research and
Mercer's book by the way only lists chronometer MAKERS and not
proprietors who did repairs. Motts is not listed in this book. The
c&c is clear in the photograph currently in the article. If not it
will of course be shown to you at the ANA-NY. Thirteen years is
stretching it in my opinion from Harrison's death in 1776 to the date
on this token. Then again this is a whole new resarch venue on the
circa period of this token.
The overall striking period of the Motts will be a difficult one and
of course unachievable with much accuracy over the short-term in my
opinion.
