I have a copy of the Gaspar article but don't recall getting the same
thing out of it that you apparently do, Mike. Let's not confuse what
was going on in the 17th Century to what transpired in the late 18th
Century, that's comparing apples and oranges. As I recall, I couldn't
see any connection to what he was saying and what we know about die
and punch linkage as it likely ocurred in Colonial/Confederation era
England and America. I think that if there was any common sources of
punches that they came from the token and button manufacturers who
were making the counterfeits. I couldn't see Boulton selling punches
to suppliment his token making business and I don't think that the
Conders, Evasions and counterfeits were a contract coinage produced
at the Tower mint. But perhaps I should reread it before I comment
further. Just remember though, you brought it up.
