Looking at the posts of the past couple of weeks and having this recent explotaion come into the realm of honesty truly makes me wonder where the collectors heads are assembled. Private closed auctions are an open invitation by ebay to allow schill bidding and do any of you really think ebay cares about schill bidding? ebay puts out a monthly statement that collects revenue, end of conversation!
Byron posted a very interesting statement that quite of few of these characters are coming out of Massachusetts and I agree. This state has long been known for its criminal activities and why should it end with numismactic items. As far as the individuals Sulpaco, Spice 363 and KGB150 they finally will have their day in small claims court on June 26, 2002. I will tell you this about the seller of private auctions that NGC and PCGS is their "whore". Rgipaul has been using this method Ray W. for quite some time and if you really think an honest auction went down for that Fugio I think you need to reconsider. This individual overpaid for quite a few large cents and put them up under new grading standards compliments of NGC and lost his shirt with the first set of coins on ebay, after that the private sale appeared on the rest of the coins.
It is very dificult to draw a line where honesty matters, just look at recent posts to this group regarding metallurgy and how in the same breath blatant lies were made on ebay regarding counterfeit coins for sale on ebay! Ebay's motive "Greed", what strikes me the most about all of this is that a group of indiviuals were able to write a book on mostly American made counterfeits in anticipation of creating a market for "Greed". The worst part of this tale is that some colonial collectors bought into this.
