Thanks for your insights, Mike, I appreciate that, and can certainly
see things from the different perspectives that you provide. I guess
the bottom line is that we'll really never know, at least not 'for
sure.'
On the other hand I've found many of the current offerings on eBay to
be very disturbing to me. The pre-HPA copies are bad enough, and now
every Tom, Dick and Harry is making them. I've seen many of the pre-
HPA copies offered to dealers at shows, and how some people refused
to believe that they were copies and walked away thinking the dealer
was trying to con them. I don't think the unscrupulous would find it
that hard to fill in the word copy on these modern fakes, as was the
case with a 'new' large cent variety not so long ago. They could
become much more than a nuisance to dealers and the general public
but, of course, not too many in this group would be fooled. Still,
any way you look at it, they don't reflect well on the Hobby as a
whole.
