Hey Dave,
I'm just catching up with alot of the posts and had to chuckle a bit seems our electrical backgrounds run along similar paths. Only the insane or "heads not screwed on too tightly" mess with 480 hot in a snow storm but I had to laugh a bit because I remember about 20 years ago I climbed into the back of a 2500 amp switchgear to tap the buses for a sub-feed at the Walbaum's Foodmart in Enfield, CT. and of course you couldn't shut down the store so they had to find someone crazy enough (or stupid enough)to tap it hot.
Amazing the things we do for a buck! Of course I charged them $800 a tap w/splice, so $2,400 for about 4hrs work was great back in 1983!
