I just did a 46-e which is now on eBay. It was VERY dark and granular. Now =
its a decent dark brown and granular. I pulled it out and rinsed it off bef=
ore it could turn orange.

I purchase only problem free, Gem UNC colonials, so I have no need of=
this solution... oops, there's the alarm clock - I must have been dreamin=
g. I don't think there's a serious colonial collector that doesn't have a =
few coins in their collections that have problems as you describe. When yo=
u figure out how much a few ounces will be, let me know.

In my search for products that remove rust from old car parts, I ca=
me across something called En-Zolve, which is non-toxic, not poisonous, ful=
ly bio-degradable, non-flamable, all natural, and works perfectly!=20
So I tried it on some awful-looking Indian cents and it did an excellen=
t job of removing the corrosion on most of them. Of course, it also removed=
the patina. I then experimented with some black and awful-looking large ce=
nts, carefully monitoring the progress and pulling them out BEFORE they bec=
ame "bright". The surfaces were still pitted but the actual oxides that cau=
sed the pitting had been removed, thus preserving the coin. I then tried it=
on a few very dark rough or corroded counterfeits and removed the corrosio=
n on them as well. Some I left only long enough to ligfhten them a bit, mak=
ing it that much easier to see the details.
The coins come out very dry so after rinsing well under cold running wa=
ter and allowing to dry completely, I gave them a decent coating of Blue Ri=
bbon. They don't look completely natural but they'll darken over time in a =
box of matches (I don't have sulphur ointment) and will be fine. And, more=
importantly, preserved, as they'll not continue to corrode.
In that one or two of you out there may also have yuck-o looking old co=
ppers that are in dire need of some major help, I can offer some of this so=
lution - 4 ounces will be plenty - for a low price - depending on how much =
I'll have to pay for a suitable container, and postage.
