    Morris, no such thing as a stupid question -- half the time people ask
    something that they think is stupid and it entices other people to share
    opinions and new ideas, and the whole hobby is better off as a result.

    As for the specific coin, I think it is a piece that had been buried and was
    later dug up, as Dave and Clem mentioned. Mike Ringo was, for awhile,
    collecting casts of the state coinage and had several dozen different NJ
    coppers alone -- you should see if he has any info on a specific cast of this
    variety.
