Hey Morris, There's no stupid questions on this group except for the ones not asked. I have not personally run across any 23-R's that were cast. BUT I haven't paid a lot of attention to counterfeit NJ's and it's difficult to tell whether a cast is contemporary or modern. I'm hoping that Dan F will be running with this. At C4 he had stepped forward to start to accumulate information and pictures of counterfeit coins. Having found a few NJ's by metal detecting, This does look like a dug coin. Better than most of what I've pulled out of the ground. I think that Charles Smith would be a good person to inquire to if you think this coin is cast. I know Phil Mossman has an interest in cast coins too. We should know what each other's interests are. I occassionally see something on ebay or hear of something I think unusual, and send an email to a friend that specializes in that area. Back to the NJ Census - I need to mail it first thing in the AM and I can't get several individules on the phone.
