    Ray, thank you for the response. I know this coin is
    not cast.

    However, I do not understand how some of the build up
    occurred and whether the corroded metal actually
    stabilzied and built up on the coin.

    Maybe someone can refer a suitable reference for
    corrosion effects on coins and coppers in specific.
