    Thanks for the response. I just find CNL-107 with a
    great article by Charles W. Smith and Philip L.
    Mossman dated April 1998. Cast Counterfeit Coppers in
    Pre-Federal America.

    Lo and behold there is a 23r in cast pictured on page
    No. 1801.

    This article covers an extreme wide range of cast
    coins and pieces. It looks like a good starting
    point.
