Anyone want a smoking gun? Three of the picture links that Gord sent were of
coins that Mario/Les sent to me on approval about a month ago -- the Cromwell
piece, Ormond seize crown and one other issue. They were offered to me for
something like $175 for the group, and had they been more colonial-relevant I
probably would have kept them, but they were too far out of my league and I
sent them back to him. These are the EXACT same pieces, no doubt whatsoever
in my mind about that. They were listed briefly on ebay, but were pulled off
after a day -- not to send to me, but apparently because of complaints from
dealers or collectors. He also changed his ebay name and his email address
right after that, so I wonder if ebay took any sort of action against him, or
if he was frightened by the legal ramifications...

I still doubt that Mario/Les wrote those descriptions, as they are far too
literate -- but if he took on a partner that would post things that he
created, it takes them one step out of his orbit, and I'm sure some new
suckers -- errr, clients -- would be bidding on items. If that's the case,
what can we do? Obviously not bidding on the coins is a common sense thing
-- but it seems that just spurs other people to bid on them, thinking that
they got a "bargain" under the nose of other collectors!

In any case, if anything ever comes of this, I would be more than happy to
swear to the fact that three of the items were mailed directly to me from
Mario. I only wish I had photographed them...
