I personally use catalogs that were produced by Mike Hodder as grading guides. More important he fully describes what he sees. How to view a copper on the bourse floor is a skill worth acguiring. Very early in my colonial collecting, I viewed the Henry Garrett collection that was to be auctioned by B+M. I then read the catalog description by lot and was shocked how many defects that I missed. I decided that I needed to study old Hodder catalog descriptions to improve my copper viewing skills. In my mind, the overall appearance of a copper is more important than whether the technical grade is vf25 or vf30
