    Hi:

First of all -- Welcome!!!!!! Speaking for the men and women in
this chat room, we are glad that you are here.

The word "slab" in this context refers to those colonials (and
other coins) that have been authenticated, graded and sealed inside a
plastic holder. This is done for a fee that ranges from about $12 to
    over $100.

The three most accepted grading services (by those who accept the
concept of having independent firms authenticate and grade coins at
    all) are:

a.) Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS)
    www.collectorsuniverse.com

b.) Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) www.ngcoin.com

    and

    c.) ANACS www.anacs.com

    Some questions for you:

    1. What could a club do to help you (and others like you) feel more
comfortable in the world of US colonials?

    2. Would you like to see a pamphlet with definitions?

    3. Would you like to be directed to web sites that offer more info?

    4. How did you find us?

    Happy collecting,
    Dave W.
