Ray, it is good to know that. Local people told me to declare as a "Machined Die Set" and that is what I used.
I will check my local man again.

Best two methods are registered and UPS. With UPS you get an automatic $200 insurance and they give you no hassle. Higher insurance costs are low and again no problems.
I always give a cost to replace figure, which fairly well covers almost anything.

Things may have changed with Postal policy. Last year I had a large cent I sold lost in the mail and never recieved according to the buyer. When I filled out the paper work I had to attach proof of purchase cost which I used a copy of the buyers canceled check.
Clem and Marc bring up a good point about coins that you are trading or just sending along for verification or for an associate to take a look at. It would seem the avenue of obtaining insurance from a private company would offer the best solution. The other alternative is sending coins via registered mail which from my understanding the chance of having an item come up missing is greatly reduced since the package needs to be signed at each Postal Stop. Things have a tendacy not to disappear when someone has to sign for the item including Postal Workers.
Another thought to consider is that the Post Office keeps registered mail locked up in a cage unlike 1st class insured mail.
