I don't think having the money to buy mega coins is a criteria for
being a serious collector. I'm seriously broke if that accounts for
anything. Nor is attendance at C4 conventions, I've never been to
one. Until this group started I didn't even know any other
collectors. Still, I have 22 Machin varieties, 50 or so New Jerseys
(no 71-y), 75 Connecticut varieties,100 nice British and Irish
counterfeit halfpence, and various other foreign coins that
circulated in colonial America, medals, ect ect. I have spent
hundreds of dollars on books and spent numerous hours in libraries
doing research ,yet you couldn't get me to stand up in front of a
group of people and give a talk. Well, maybe for a R-7 Machin I might
give it a whirl. I would like to write some things as well, but
missing those four years of high school has diminished my writing
skills to a degree.I do try once in a while and will continue to do
so. I will probably collect these little chunks of copper until I
die. I can't think of any other thing I would rather do ,and that, in
my opinion, makes me a serious collector.

interesting and informative as discussions on a specific coin or some
other topics. It's like being at the Convention, sitting around in
someone's room or the hotel bar late at night just shooting the
    bull.....just without the cigarette smoke.

numerical quantifier on the various types of collectors, but rather
simply to get other people's thoughts.
