So I'm reading my new Bowers March auction catalog and come across the
nice the Ryder 6 being offered as a PCGS 58 and note that in the lot
description it goes on at some length of how this is the finest landscape
copper Bowers has offered in years (and mentions a few other varieties in the
Taylor sale, etc.) and states that this is the finest Ryder 6 that has been sold
publicly to their knowledge or words to that effect.
Now, I'm not the worlds' foremost authority here (I'm not even a serious
collector by standards articulated on this site), but I do know that Bowers
themselves auctioned the Eliasberg collection not all that long ago and the
Ryder 6 in that sale was described as MS60 - the finest known.
I could go on and theorize about who wrote this, who approved it and why, but
I'll leave it at that. Doesn't look real good in my opinion.
