    Roger and Roger,
    Zooming in to get a picture of the date is better done with an optical
    zoom rather than a digital zoom. Digitally zooming in looks as though the
    pixels get larger, and when you zoom too far, it's like looking at a
    newspaper photograph with a magnifying glass - all you see is a lot of dots.
    Maybe with the newer megapixel cameras this isn't as bad as it was with the
    earlier cameras.
