Let's see. The Optical Zoom is "x3 optical zoom linked to the
viewfinder" which is quite handy. The embedded Digital zoom 4X. I use
filters for lighting as opposed to the camera (which I have also
tried but did not like). I try to filer the light for shooting silver
coins to cut down the glare but as I mentioned I am still struggling
with silver. I have used everything from commercial fabric filters to
wax papaer. Sometimes filtering the light on a copper coin gives a
nice effect. Also, sometimes you want to use black board or silver
paper behind the coin to absorb light or reflect light back. I use
a "SILK mini-pro" Tripod for the camera, but there are lots of these
available at inexpensive prices, just make sure you can pivot the
Camera easily and you have some up/down capability. I am also looking
at a more standardized environment so I can replicate conditions for
consistency of images. I have found this handy when doing things like
comparing two coins. I want to shot them in identical circumstances,
distances, lighting etc., print them on transparent paper and hold
them up against one another to compare die states etc. As to
lighting, like Morris and others who have commented, you just have to
experiment. But I would plan on having two lights that can simply be
small bendable desktop high intesity lamps. I like Morris' comment
about 10:00 and 3:00 (as well as his other tips), as it should also
cut down shadow around the coin edge.
I think that covers it. Oh yes, "plate photograph" it is (I knew you
would have an observation there. And, any acquisition in Ford will be
notabble.
