    Syd:

Die links point to links between/among mints. The exact nature of such links can
only be established through other evidence. They are, if nothing else, suggestive.
They are not necessarily dispositive. Punch links are also suggestive. The question
arises, then, what do they suggest? Are they of the same class of evidence as die
links? I think most numismatists would agree they are not. In the case of punches
raised from one matrix, damaged or perfect, punch links by themselves cannot
establish or even suggest other sorts of links between/among mints. There must be
other, confirmatory, evidence to do that. Off my hobbyhorse.
