I was re-reading an article by Eric Newman, "American Circulation of Englis= h and Bungtown Halpence", in Studies on Money in Early America, ANS 1976.
There is an image in this article of a Machin's Mills type (6-76A), "struck= over Spain, 8 Marvedis". (Scan of image attached)
My question (actually two questions). Are there other known Machin's Mills= that are struck over something other than a blank? I have never seen one.= Granted I have only been looking at these for a few years but I have look= ed at lot of references.=20=20
Also, is the piece really struck over a Spain 8 Maravedis? Does not look r= ight to me. If not, what is it struck over?
Thanks.
