Clem I have also seen this done. To be honest, I used to see it on gold coins. Found out many years ago, that way back when, platinum was cheap, and certain unscrupulous people would drill out the center of a gold coin, typically $20's and refill with platinum, as the metals are fairly close in atomic weight. I had seen this on about 20 or so gold coins during the 70's. I haven't bought a gold coin for almost that long, so I don't knowhow prevalent they are, but truthfully, buying a gold coin in a slab where I can't see the edge scares the heck out of me. David
