    You may be right Ray,
But in my opinion it was a war of attrition, and the Union Army,=20
having such superior numbers, would have had a difficult time losing=20
the war no matter who the generals were. I think Lincoln knew this.=20
And that is what made this war outcome more dependent upon politics=20
than generals. We all know that a little dog fights a big fight in=20
his own back yard, but even this will not stop the bigger dog from=20
eventually winning the battle as long as he has the will to continue.=20
Historians who know far more than I can ever hope to know tell us=20
that the war could have been over sooner had the Union been able to=20
motivate and move their men in for the final kill at an earlier time.=20
Lincoln knew this. He had generals who were more concerned for the=20
immediate safety of their men then for a quick end to a horrible war=20
(as opposed to a good one??) through the sacrifice of their soldiers=20
    lives.
Of course these are just some of my opinions and recollections of=20
    things I have read.
    =20=20=20=20=20=20

resources that they were part of the superior army. Down South the=20
Civil War is known as the Battle to Preserve State Rights and up=20
North it is known as the Battle for the Preservation of the Union.=20=20
