I agree with you when you say accuracy is important to
collectors when more than one is competing for a
particular coin...it helps to know the market when
choices are to be made.
I speak from practical experience as a cataloguer of
more than a few R-4s and R-5s. At these levels, and it
gets worse the lower you go, accuracy just isn't
possible given the state of our arts. I've seen over
5,000 NJ coppers in the past 20 years and more CTs,
but I know there is lots of stuff I haven't and never
will. So, I know my estimates of rarity can never be
perfect. In fact, even the RT-7s and 8s and 9's can
fall when someone finds an example in a collection not
examined earlier. Like I said to Roger, uncertainty is
what we're dealing with here in many respects and
that's one of the factors that makes this business
continue to be interesting and challenging to me.
