I am currently polling all the metal detecting forums and metal detecting c=
lubs in the Northeast in trying to get a distribution of the Jersey Colonia=
ls found by metal detectors. This will take a month or two to compile but =
so far, I have Jersey's found in Va, Pa, Del, NY, Conn, RI Ontario and NJ.
Here in South Jersey, my son and I have found 4 Vermonts, in Atlantic/Cumbe=
rland County. We have attributed them, of course I just posted the RR16, ha=
ve a RR21 and my son has the Vt Immune Columbia and a common variety.
Connecticut coppers are the second most common found of the state colonials=
    .
I have friends in Mass, Vt, and upstate NY and the hardest coin to find is =
    any NY copper. Don H

In his article in the Colonial News-Letter about the Stepney Hoard,=20
Phil Mossman posited that the reason the hoard from Stepney,=20
Fairfield County, Connecticut, had no New Jerseys, Fugios, or=20
Massachusetts coppers and predominantly had Connecticut coppers is=20
because the state coppers of the Confederation period usually=20
circulated within the borders of their states, and not outside them.

Does the pattern of coin finds confirm this? I.e. are most finds in=20
Vermont Vermonts, most finds in Connecticut Connecticuts, etc.?
