The name of Bowers & Merena has been sold again!!! I read on the Front page of the March 9 Numismatic News that Collectors Universe sold the name and some assets to Spectrum Numismatics of CA. I don't know much about the parent company but I have received telemarketing calls from them promoting gold coins recovered from the ocean that have been conserved.
I was just going to write about purchasing a name and what's in a name, but I think I'll let it go. No I won't... A name is just what we call the person the character and all the positives and negatives associated with the individual. If we like what the individual is, it doesn't matter what he's called or where he is.
A company would be better off spending the $2.5 million on servicing their customers and establishing their own good reputation, rather than trying to purchase someone else's reputation. If I got a bag of M&Ms and placed them in a Godiva Chocolate box, they're still M&Ms. The people in the hobby that spend money, know where to get Godiva chocolates if they desire them...
"That's all I have to say about that", and this is just my personal opinion.
