    Stan,
I just received permission to post the text to this egroup. Will do so when I figure out how... whether to scan the pages or retype the text. I'll ask Diane tonight.

I've been to Georgia. You don't have to be in a monastery to live like
    a monk.
I'd like to see his study Ray. I would then love to presnt these
facts to the Hibernian Club on St. Patricks day around 4PM after
everyone is tuned up. In particular to the oldtime members after they
are half in the bag. I think they would welcome these thoughts for
review as very few seem to have racial issues.(yea...right)

It is an interesting idea Ray....I always thought he was a Goomba....

    Steve

    Steve,
My Mom's uncle is a Monk in a monastery in Georgia. He did some
research on St Patrick and has come to the conclusion that St Patrick
came from Africa and was most likely not Caucasian. I have a pamphlet
    he wrote on the subject.

    John and Mike,
My knowledge in this area is poor to say the least. I am, however,
enjoying the thread. I found many more google "hits" using the
    spelling "miter".
All of the sites I visited agree that the miter St. Patrick wears
in this and other depictions was not invented for another 500 years
after he walked the Earth, although another soft, flat type of miter may
    have existed.
Who knows?? Perhaps the second cross was added to the Roman style
miter to show that Episcopalians were twice as righteous as there
Catholic counterparts. I doubt if it's as simple as this, but if the
Shamrock was added later to represent the trinity.....why not??

    Steve
