John, Thanks for not being too greedy. Marc ----- Original Message -----=20 From: johnmenc@optonline.net=20 To: colonial-coins@yahoogroups.com=20 Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 2:23 PM Subject: [Colonial Numismatics] Re: Eric P. Newman and the 50% circulatio= n concept
Cobwright currently believes that most of the evasions are of a=20 1790'ish minting period ... regardless of the date on these=20 specimens based on several recent correspondences. I am sure this=20 would ALSO tie-in a "certain" percentage of the 1775's. Which ones -=20 we may never know - obviously.
Since people were using these non-regal halfpence a couple of non- regal dates like 1794 are not unexpected and most specimens struck=20 past 1775 are of course DESIRABLE particularly if GEORGE II.=20
Of course - why create any resitance just keep the date back-dated=20 as 1775 even though the calender in front of you reads 1794.
Looking at the other side of the spectrum ... I have one specimen in=20 my collection of a GEORGE II English halfpence dated 1717! OK - so=20 the engraver slipped and made a "1" instead of a "4" in the third=20 digit? It still reads 1717.=20
It's a crazy series ... sometimes.=20
J.F.Atlee ...good grab on that 1747 Counterfeiting Act on E-Bay.=20 Actually I have that ACT already in my library as I purchased it=20 privately a couple of years back privately from a England Book=20 Dealer on the Internet. I was just being GREEDY. But any lover of=20 Blacksmiths can't be all BAD. You have been slightly annoying to me=20 recently on your determined & focused buying habits <BG>.
