Clem and all, I would challenge any opinion that suggests that the Ford gold SP is a product of a casting process.
This coin has showed me an "new" artifact that I have "now" seen on a couple of better grade farthing pics that I have. A line connecting a few of the denticles.
This partial denticle line (Ford gold SP) has been mentioned to me by some of you who viewed the coin and I really thank you for this......I am going to continue harping on this ....the pictures speak. Stan
>>> copperclem@comcast.net 01/21/05 8:23 PM >>> Hey Stan,
I'm still a bit burnt out from all the driving around surrounding the sale with FXM. But I did look at the edges for you.
I'll get back to the gold piece in a minute. Lot 6 had the line you spoke of, running completely around the entire circumference although at times it wondered off center and roamed over to the edge, this was very clear.
While looking for this effect on the gold, it was not present at all, I did see that the three dentils at around twelve o'clock were split, not quite on center, and split the long way. A possible jewelry piece? One advanced numismatist I mentioned this to at the sale also told me he saw it and believed it was some product of a casting process?
All the others l looked at did not show any signs of the edge abnormally, that I could see.
Clem

Steve, Great question! All of that edge photography back and forth a few days ago really got my juices flowing. Seriously, Roger M. if you don't mind please describe to the best of your ability how the reeding looked to you. Did you study the edges of the three silver coins? Anyone else who examined it/them please do the same. Stan
