I think that we don't give each other enough credit to do the "right" thing when it comes to moral decisions... I'm glad your story had a happy ending! Yesterday my wife accidently left her purse at Kmart. When she discovered what she had done she rushed back to the store but the purse was gone. Besides being hysterical when she once more returned home, she was convinced that anyone shopping at Kmart would never return her purse. (Though she had just been shopping there herself!!) Though I thought this very elitist in viewpoint, I wasn't about to argue as she proceeded to cancel all the credit cards and her cell phone service. This was down in an urban area (the Howard/Eutaw Street retail district in Baltimore). It was safer then it is now, but even then it was a little rough down there. My father always did little things like that to me as part of the growing up process. Those were interesting days.

Agreed...and when people offer a monetary reward, I try to tell them it would negate the great feeling I got from the deed. Why should I be rewarded for not taking what didn't belong to me in the first place. That feeling is worth more than the 200 dollars. The money would not have changed your life, and probably would have been spent unwisely, but now you are able to hold you head up and tell the story and feel good about what you did years ago.

When I finally reached her I was out of breath and showed her the money.
She looked amazed and checked her pocket. She was extremely grateful and
asked what she could do for a reward. I asked her to buy me a cup of
coffee and we called it even.
Just another of life's funny stories.
