Hi All -- I just had a few free hours to shoot a couple of coins that I
thought would be of interest to some, and which are now locked away in my own
collection. This one is a neat cast counterfeit George II halfpence, in a very
brassy alloy. The fascinating thing is that even though it is a cast it is
also double "struck" -- yeah, double-cast would be a little more accurate!
Both the obverse and reverse are dramatically doubled (though the obverse
doesn't show it as well on the photos) -- the legends are all doubled, and there
are two branch hands on the reverse. For BOTH the obverse and reverse to have
this done, someone must have slightly twisted the original coin that the
casting molds were taken from. Has anyone else seen anything like this?
Jeff
