    Hi All,
Jeff's last post with a coin engraved very nicely has inspired this pos=
    t. I have a great respect for the knowledge that the average colonial coll=
ector has with respect to his/her specialized field. I think the nature of=
what we collect inspires us to learn more about the coins and their histor=
    y. BUT, have you ever sat down and talked with a collector of colonial med=
als? The Betts Medal collectors are amazing. Not to embarrass anyone, but=
I've had occasion to talk (and/or listen) to collectors like David Menchel=
l, John Adams, Joe Lasser, David Alexander, and others. Their historical k=
nowledge of the colonial time period is unequalled by most "colonial collec=
tors" that I know. We study the coins, minting technologies, minters, engr=
avers, etc. The medal collectors seem to study the history. I received a =
nice email from John Adams this morning, and I was thinking that I should c=
onsider joining the MCA. Just what Diane wants to hear... another numisma=
tic "club"... another annual dues... Are there any here that are members =
of MCA and can tell us a little about the organization and its publications=
    ?

    Ray
