Ray, thanks for your suggestion about asking
questions. I need to ask a stupid question. Which
weight system was used in England in the 17th century
at the mint for coins? Sometimes I read one author
who follows the Troy pound, and another who uses the
    Avoirdupois
pound, and yet another using the Tower Pound. I
suspect the Avoirdupois pound is later.

When did the real historical system become phased
    out or changed?

Which system was used in colonial America? What system
was used by the US Mint 1792 until whenever it
    changed?

Please respond with documentary sources if you can.
Opinions are just that, opinions. But having the
actual historical record as proof is always best.
