Thanks Roger. Actually I know nothing about Pioneer coinage either, only
what I read over the years, it's just that that's the last major thing I had
heard was on display at the Old Mint.

Unfortunately, I'm only going to be in the city, proper, for one night. My
wife is flying there on Tuesday for a conference downtown that runs until
Thursday afternoon. I'm flying in Thursday afternoon, and after some
sightseeing that evening and part of Friday, we're going to head up to the Santa
Rosa/Sebastopol/Sonoma area Friday afternoon and Saturday to visit a few wineries.

    Hi Craig,

The guy in the know is coin dealer Don Kagin in
Tiburon, California (who also always seem to have more
than his fair share of Pioneer Gold in inventory).
Since I consider this stuff all modern, I have not
followed the goings on at the SF Mint for a while. But
last I heard, it was vacated and considered an
earthquake hazzard requiring $50M to retrofit. Don and
several others in San Francisco have been trying to
raise money for this for a while but I don't know how
succesful they have been. Anyway, I drive by it pretty
regularly and thought it was closed. Don Kagin may
    know different.

But if you are interested in San Francisco coinage and
the Gold Rush, I think Wells Fargo Bank maintains a
nice little Museum on this material and what they
carried on the Stages. It may require an appointment
    though.

There is a very vibrant Ancient Coinage collector base
in SF and they meet once a month but I think it is the
second Saturday of the month so I am not sure that
    will work.

Finally, there are a few (very few) Colonial guys in
the Bay Area (only two that I know in San francisco
proper). If you want, I can try to set up a dinner if
    you have a free night.

    Best,

    Roger S.
