We also did a (very) brief write-up on the EAC convention on our=20
    website. Here is the link:

Here is the cut & paste of the "Road Report" itself:

    Road Report
    Tales from Our Numismatic Travels
    May 4-6, 2006: EAC Convention

If you like personalized attention, want to focus in-depth on one=20
fascinating and important area of US numismatics, enjoy seeing=20
displays of some of the finest early American copper coins in=20
existence, and think you might want to do all of this in a decadent=20
resort atmosphere, then you most certainly would have enjoyed=20
    attending this year's EAC convention.=20

There we were at the Marriott in West Palm Beach, FL (which is=20
also the "host" hotel for the twice-annual West Palm Beach Coin=20
Show), copper coins everywhere, having a blast.=20

The convention started with a bang with a spectacular reception=20
sponsored by Heritage Galleries. We've been to a lot of similar coin-
related receptions over the years, but never to one where there was=20
so much free food that dealers and collectors couldn't finish it all=20
(note that we're talking real food - platters of jumbo shrimp,=20
sushi, and other fabulous fare and a group which is not known for=20
    their bird-like appetites).=20

From a dealer perspective, the EAC typically is not so great from=20
a business standpoint. Even in the middle of surging coin market,=20
our sales were modest, as expected for this event (this is always=20
our weakest show from a buying & selling perspective). But unlike=20
most coin shows, that really isn't what this convention all is=20
    about.=20

It IS about renewing old friendships and meeting new people each=20
year who have discovered the well-trodden path to early copper=20
coins. It IS about seminars on grading, detecting counterfeits,=20
collecting by variety and by die state. It IS about a 500 lot=20
auction of colonials, half cents and large cents - mostly in=20
collector grades and price levels. And it IS about seeing all that=20
cool stuff, including a spread of 1786 Connecticut Coppers that=20
    belong in a museum.=20

And so, we made some new friends, accepted some nice compliments=20
on our revamped website (I'm blushing as I type this, but I refuse=20
to insert the blushing smiley face emoticon here because it looks a=20
little too much like Minnie Mouse), bought a few choice and cool=20
items which will soon grace the "esoteric" area of our website, and=20
got a reminder of what this hobby is supposed to be about.=20

You can't beat that, can you?=20
