Today, my wife and I drove over to Fort Worth to attend the annual TNA Convention Coin Show....billed as the largest regular coin show in Texas.
There were a few half-way decent Colonials on the floor....generally priced at multiples of their true value. But one table I stopped at had a few loose vinyl pages with various 18th and 19th century pieces mixed in.
At the top of one page was a coin labeled "1775 Machins' Mills - RARE". The coin was an obvious contemporary counterfeit halfpenny...maybe a fine...the price ... $175.
But on the same vinyl page, on the bottom row was a flip marked simply "1787". Guess what's in the flip....a Machins' Mills halfpenny (since attributed as a 17-87A)...the price... $50.
I only bought one of them.....<grin>
