One of those fun posts that has nothing at all to do with colonials -- well,
except that someone mentioned in it IS pretty old!

Last night went to a concert -- actually on my birthday, at my old
university. Live and in person, none other than Bob Dylan. The funny thing was that
this was the second time he has played here on my exact birthday, which seems
like one heck of a neat coincidence to me!

Anyhow, the concert was awesome -- a 65-year old man who is still pretty
darned cool, rocking a sold-out venue where the crowd ranged in age from 15 to
at least 80, with a good-sized chunk of it made up of people under 30; people
stood up when he came on stage and some didn't sit down for the rest of the
show -- and there were at least a half-dozen senior citizens literally dancing
in the aisles near me. In fact, he just became the oldest person ever to
have a #1 record on the charts! I'd be hard-pressed to think of any other
artist that has that kind of drawing power with the possible exception of Paul
    McCartney.

If any of you haven't heard his new album, "Modern Times" is a must-listen
record. A lot of people don't like Dylan because of the nasally voice, but
this one is pretty impeccable in that department. You can understand all the
words, but his voice has weathered and aged in a way that makes the songs
really come alive. Think of Sinatra in his later recordings. He'll surely get
nominated for a few Grammy's when it comes around, and I wouldn't be surprised
to see him walk away with a few more...the album is really that good.

And, for the record, it is really nice to listen to while you are looking at
colonial coins -- so there is a tie-in afterall!

    Jeff
