In a recent thread some of you were discussing lead "bales seals". Here's =
a good archaeological reference on these seals, both showing a group recove=
red at Fort Michilimackinac and discussing their intended purpose. It conl=
cudes that, while some were used to seal bales of goods, many were used to =
indicate quality on textiles, so "bale seals" as a generic name for all of =
them isn't quite accurate.
