Hi All,
The past couple weeks have not been fun for me. But the good thing about this hobby is that we can delve into it and forget the problems of life, if just for a little while. Next Thursday, I give two talks at the Ocean County Coin Club. Both are on Washingtonia, not an area I feel overly comfortable in, but it's an interesting topic and this forces me to study a little on the series. The first talk is presented to the YN (kids) program. Today I received an Express Mail package from Chris McCawley containing about 30 of his 1999 advertising tokens that have a Washington Bust on one side, a bust similar to the 1791 LG and SM Eagle Cents. I'll be giving these to the kids. Chris spent a fortune on the Express postage, not to mention what these cost him to make. I know many generous people in this hobby. Chris' generosity is typical of many of you out there.
Colonial Numismatics has become an integral part of my life, and my life is more enjoyable because of it. Life is too short to not have a hobby, and this hobby came along with many new friends.
On Friday August 10th, the ANA is recognizing me with an award. If any of you are attending the ANA Convention and are free at 1:00 PM on the 10th, please attend the awards presentation and be there with me. What a great hobby when you can get an award for having fun!!! I have fun by being active. It's sometimes a lot of work, but when someone says how much they enjoyed some aspect of the convention, it makes all the work worthwhile.
On Saturday August 11th, there will be a C4 General Membership Meeting at 9:00 AM. This is an hour before the bourse floor opens, so there's no excuse for missing it! There should be 4 or 5 C4 Officers there to update you on different aspects of the hobby, and to field questions. I know it's a "meeting" and meetings are normally dreaded... BUT C4 Meetings are fun!
See you in Milwaukee,
Ray
