    Ray,
I'm not concerned about the age of C4 members. I doubt that colonial=20
collectors are older on average now than in the past. This area of=20
numismatics tends to be one that collectors graduate to. In other=20
words, most of us got here through a process of maturing of tastes=20
    that took many years.

That said, I have an answer for you more in keeping with the spirit=20
of your inquiry. There are inexpensive colonials and many of them=20
are on ebay. I imagine that there are new/young collectors buying=20
such coins there. These collectors could be anywhere geographically.=20
If they don't get tied into the bigger colonial coin community, they=20
might buy some coins for a while and then move on. So to me a good=20
answer would be to get some exposure on ebay. My first idea was to=20
get the sellers of colonials on ebay to put info about C4 in the=20
body of their ebay listings. That would be good. It might take=20
nothing more than sending out email to the regular sellers. My=20
second idea would be to sell 1 year memberships to C4 on ebay (in=20
the colonial coins category if possible). They could be discounted,=20
but the value is good enough (25$) that it would not be necessary.=20
They could be done "Buy It Now". I think this is a very good idea,=20
if I say so myself. Anyone who starts to form a collection of=20
colonial coins on ebay would see the listing. If they act, then=20
they'll get 4 issues of the most excellent C4N and possibly be=20
hooked for a lifetime like the rest of us.=20

average age of the membership is in the mid 50s, and there were very=20
few under 40. I am one of the "average" age members and there's=20
nothing wrong with being old!!! It's much better than the=20
alternative!!! But it would be nice to attract some younger members=20
to the colonial numismatic arena. We can supply some prizes to the=20
ANA's YN program for "Colonial" related articles and projects done=20
by young people. But how can we attract the 20 and 30 year olds? I=20
think the main problem is the cost of the coins... although you can=20
collect colonials economically (a relative term), it's not easy and=20
    the fields are limited.=20=20

now and I hope when it is released in 2008, that it will attract=20
some young blood into the hobby. Maybe if some of us wrote some=20
articles for the hobby at large - coin world and numismatic news=20
(etc.) we might inspire some young people. Maybe if we came to a=20
common agreement to charge no more that $100 for a CT Copper when we=20
sell to collectors under 40... <VBG> All kidding aside, if there=20
are any ideas, please let me know.
