    Hi All,
Just to give you an idea of how good Syd Martin's book is on Wood's Hib=
ernia, let me quote just the first paragraph of the introduction by Mike Ho=
dder. Mike is not one to give praise on an every day basis, and his opinio=
ns are listened to and respected.

    INTRODUCTION

    =20

You hold in your hands one of the most thorough, authoritative, and ultimat=
ely useful numismatic studies on any subject that has been undertaken in th=
e past century. If that were not enough to mark this book as one worthy of=
high praise, its successful command of the daunting complexity of its subj=
ect matter would be more than sufficient to earn it high marks. The copper=
coinages produced for Ireland by William Wood in the third decade of the e=
ighteenth century have been, until now, among the most difficult and least =
understood of all the issues popularly included by Crosby, Breen, and simil=
ar vade mecums. Syd Martin's study organizes a previously inchoate mass of=
data on the coinages, adds new information, and creates what will become a=
s soon as it sees print the standard work on the series. It is not likely =
that this work will be supplanted any time soon. New discoveries will be m=
ade in old collections, private and institutional, and these will be added =
to Syd's listings, but the core of his work will stand the test of time.
