What a way to end the year... The mail arrived and not a single piece of numismatic material! Well, maybe Friday there will be an Americana Sale Catalog in my mail box... Actually, I heard a rumor that the catalogs would be in the mail Friday, so maybe Monday...
Just wondering how many will be at the International show? I'll be there Saturday as my schedule looks at the moment. I know one friend north of the border and another from across the Delaware will be there too. I know that there are very few of the typical "colonials" at the show, but there are foreign coin dealers who have coins that circulated in the colonies.
I don't know what made me think of it, but I was a successful ebay bidder on a NJ colonial bill from Feb 1776. The seller said he found it in his Mom's estate being used as a book mark inside a 1897 First Aid book. I also managed to get the book too <BG> We hear all the time about the famous auctions and sales and research books from the 1800's about colonial coins. I don't hear much about colonial notes being collected or studied in the 1800s. Were they of so little value then that people would use them as a book mark? Before there was a Eric Newman, what references were used for colonial bills? Were there any famous plated sales?
I figure that if there is a good answer to be had, I'll find it here
