Hey guys (Steve, Ed), you all,
Like I said I have a few cast ctft cobs. The only problem, that we always= have, is how to tell exactly when these were made, usually a best guess bu= t often the look and texture is what does it.
I'll post two cast ctft 2R, one from "Potosi, Bolivia" and one from "Lima= , Peru" and then two from "Mexico", one 2R and a 1R. These all look contemp= orary to me, and other experts ;-). In other words Skalbe tried to buy thes= e from me and when that happens I trust it over any authenticator I know ;-= )

Hi Steve.=20
I used to own that coin. I feel that it is a contemporary cast counterfei= t. I have only seen two minor denomination cob counterfeits. The other was = a 1719 struck two reales.
Get yourself a copy of Cobs, pieces of eight and treasure coins by Seward= Menzel. It was put out by ANS. It is the best book on cobs that I have eve= r read and it has tons of images.

Hello all. I have been catching up and wil= l share a few images. The first is a fairly rare Virginian and newly disco= vered since Newman's papers on Virginians. It is called a 16-U and it is a= great example. The second is for John L. and is a 1751 Defiant head. The= obverse andf reverse is know. I have not checked to see if the pairing is= known. I am pretty sure John is working away on a paper on these since th= ese are one of his favorite families. The 75104 is only of interest since i= s is a full metal turn. This is fairly unusual in the non regals in my exp= erience and the price was right. Thje f5301 is a faerthing with a George I= II obverse but the unusual date of 1753 - I have not seen any other farthin= gs with this date though I am sure David P. probably has three or four. In= any case enjoy. Roger/ FONT> = =20
