after the disappointment of not getting a 9-76B I wound up picking up a few counterfeits, some new, and a few old. A few lead casts...a pretty neat NJ that would cause you to look twice when seeing the reverse...the color and all is really good. None of the counterfeits is stamped. An 1806 cast lead mexican 8 reales, a 1745 8 reales, and a very cool 1818 8 reales that I'm trying to find a match for, and will post it to the sp am group. I actually think the lead and this one are contemporary. The cast lead has the normal edge marking. The other I cant figure out. TM assayer...rings nice...light at 23 grams and has a neat edge...so I stretched my 50 bucks today and had a great time talking coins with the propritor.
here is the 1818 and edge shots if anyone has a match...Marc probably does.<s>
Does anyone know if Canadian banks stamped "COUNTERFEIT' on bad coins? the 18xx quarter has that....arched in caps.
