I just got back home and it's been a busy two days - fun busy. I was f= ortunate enough to be able to attend the ANS Gala Dinner last night. What = a lot of fun! Back in September, I purchased a string of original wampum, = from a Seneca site from the 1600s. I told Diane that if she would wear the= wampum to the ANS dinner at the Waldorf Astoria, that I would purchase a n= ew dress. Well, she wore it and looked great! The dress was nice too! Ac= tually, the dress was awesome! Diane and I sat between Arnold & Christine = Miniman (C4 Member) and Elizabeth Hahn & Andy Carlson (ANS Librarian & bank= er). Elizabeth is always fun to be around, and Arnold is too. Food was go= od and music too. I was the successful bidder on a book, proceeds to go to= ANS. As in C4 Auctions, Dave Menchell had a piece of woodwork for auction= - I think it brought over $1500! He does very nice woodwork. It was nice= to see everyone there. Got home about 1:30 this AM. This morning, the alarm went off at 6:15. Had to drive Diane to the tr= ain station, then I met Leo Shane (C4 Librarian) for a drive back to the Wa= ldorf Astoria for the NY International Show. I was fortunate enough to pic= k up a Swedish coin I've been looking for, saw a number of friends, manned = the ANS table for Megan so she could go get some lunch, had lunch with Leo = and Dan Freidus, then headed home. There was NO TRAFFIC! It's fun talking= with Leo in the car. He is a wealth of information and has collecting int= erests that are not in the mainstream of colonial numismatics. I look forw= ard to exhibits and articles from Leo. Taxi Steve was supposed to drive in= with us, but cancelled at the last minute for family reasons. I saw Ed Fo= ster there! Ed didn't make it to C4 this past November - his car died when= he was on his way. Ed had given a talk several years ago at C4 about the = identification of families in the counterfeit British 1/2 d series. Ed had= a way of simply explaining what was a complex topic.=20=20 Well, off to the coffee pot and my recliner.
