Greg, I'm sure that all of us variety collectors, with the exception of possibly one or two, have our scarcer coins in low grade/damaged/holed... If you have a SVDB as you describe, I'd think you could get $25 for it. Ray

I have a question to pose to the group:
There is an interesting saying that a rare coin with a problem is still a rare coin. However, it is still a problem coin as well.
Given that fact, are there people on this board who specialize in "bottom feeding" with regards to rare die varieties? I do not mean cherrypicking.
Personally, I think the focus on quality is a BIT overstated. A prudent collector who has an excellent (and it has to be excellent) feel for the market can do very well buying "horror show" R6's at the right number.
Think of it this way with regards to mainstream US. I have a VG details, 1909-S VDB with copper-pot color and a pocketknife gash on the cheek. Although devalued greatly, I am sure that if you put it out for $25 at a show it would be worth it to someone and be gone. Although extreme, it makes the point that there is a market for such a hideous example at some price.
Something to chew on for a rainy day for East Coasters.
Greg
