Concerning the XRF analyses of these Machins Mills pieces/fragments current=
ly in-progress:
Read this:

When finishing the Ryder 40 metallurgical analyses forthe six month Anton B=
ook project the sulfur cluster deposits on the coins which appeared identic=
ally with other 18thC standard coins from the colonies and England during t=
his period in question was a good signature as was the similar composition =
profiles also which can not be duplicated in the 20thC. But in this study w=
ithout SEM/EDS certainly the data will be limited on these copper drippings=
from this Newburgh, NY counterfeiting site. But its a beginning. In this a=
rticle above see Figures 7 & 8. This is the kind of snapshots we want and t=
he Figure 6 was sort of similar to the sulfur deposit scenario we get on th=
ese DIRTY 18thC coppers we all love to collect (i.e., organics ~10%). Event=
ually even with varing work conditions and remelting of copper from differe=
nt sources I am sure an isolated manufacturing surface/composition profile =
will be developed from this initial surface XRF study. Be careful in your c=
onclusions ... or should I say SUGGESTIONS at this point when you get my da=
ta <BG>.
